Book Cover - Fish in a Tree

Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt is the story of Ally, a young girl with dyslexia who has been able to hide her inability to read from her teachers for years. She’s convinced that there’s “no cure for her dumb mind” until she gets a new teacher, Mr. Daniels. Mr. Daniels sees beyond Ally’s trouble-making in class and realizes that she’s a genuinely bright girl. With his help, Ally forms new friendships, grows her confidence, and learns the importance of valuing your own strengths.
I really liked reading Fish in a Tree, but I would only recommend it to older readers. The book deals with some important themes; it touches on subjects from bullying to learning disorders and to class issues. However, it is a longer book, so younger audiences may find it a challenge to read. Overall, Fish in a Tree is a wonderfully interesting book with a very happy ending that teaches the importance of not only education, but of kindness and patience.
